It's been a long time since I've blogged. Now it's the exam period and I've been buried under books, lecture notes and lotsa information. Finally, I can resurface and take a breath before I submerge into economics and cognitive psy again. Haha. So glad to see people tagging my blog =)
Anyway, this period of time is challenging for me. More than just studying 12hours everyday...there are many areas of my life that I had to deal with and needed a breakthrough. With multiplying pressures and stress just piling up, I begin to experience panic attacks. Panic attacks are basically feeling anxious without a cause and this anxiety disrupts one's ability to do anything for a period of time. For a few nights, I will be suddenly gripped with fear and anxiety in my heart...not because I was thinking or worrying about something. But this anxiousness steals the peace in my heart without warning and can last for hours. After which I will not be able to do anything.
After battling with this for a week, I became frustrated enough to finally decide to put a stop to it. I started crying out to God in prayer and asked for peace to fill my heart. Whenever I prayed, peace and calmness enters my heart. But when I stopped praying, fear came back again. So I had to pray a few times before this anxiety stopped.
This is the 3rd week since my first panic attack started. And thank God it has left me. I realized the importance of having peace in your heart. Without peace, it's like living in a war zone. Now I truly understood why Jesus is the prince of peace and have come to gave us peace. People are trying to go on vacations to some secluded island, do meditations and listen to calming music to get serenityd tranquility. Yea, it does work and has benefits but only temporary or superficially. Thank God I've a better way to get peace that will remain and that is always available just by praying.
Ok, that's all for tonight. Needa catch some rest! Exams are going to end on 7th May. Can't wait for the 3.5months holiday. Gonna do relief teaching, learn guitar & driving, go for a holiday and have honeymoons with God =)

The Man Must Get It!
I'm feeling real tired walking from the Central Library back to my hostel with 5 heavy books. On my way, I met at least 4 guys. But none offered to help. Once, I even dropped by book upon reaching the entrance of my hostel and all the guy did was to help me pick it up. I was obviously struggling with those books and as a gentleman, he could have asked if I needed help with the books.
As a girl, I help my girl friends to carry their things when I see they have much to carry. If guys don't rise up to the occassion, no wonder girls have to take over roles like opening doors, carrying things etc. I'm not sexist but you're only a male by birth and a MAN BY CHOICE!
Take responsibility guys! Serve the ladies and treat them well...then you'll be assured that your girl will adore you and submit to you willingly and wholeheartedly!

Who is he?
He is very humble, even though he is very great.
He is very confident, but he is never proud.
He is very loving, in fact he is love.
He calls all to come, and rejects none.
He gives to everyone, without reservation. And yes! Even his life...
Can't find anyone better. Can't find anyone that can even come close.
Everyone wants to find a person who they can give their lives to. That's why people get married, that's why people have friendships. But he is better than anyone or anything you have.
He loves me even before I know him.
He loves me even when I don't love him.
He loves me even when I make him sad.
He loves me even when I don't trust him.
He loves me even when I make mistakes.
He loves me even when I'm not lovable.
Can't get any better huh...
After all these, I can't help but to love him.
He's all that I want and all that I need.
And he's the one you're looking for too...
His name is Jesus.

Grasspower!
I bought wheatgrass drink today. Haven't had it for sometime. It taste really great after you put it into the freezer (but without it being frozen)! It gives me a little of the effect of what bubble tea gives to me. Can be a substitute for bubble tea as happy food when I can't find bubble tea or had too much of it. Hahaha!
Still remember there was once I had dinner with Desmond, Mingyao and Jason(I think!)... Desmond laughed when I ordered wheatgrass from the Uncle who came to our table to take our drink orders. I was very surprised to hear him say that wheatgrass are for old people! Man, my sister and I enjoy that drink. And he said Fei Yu Qing advertizes for "Grasspower", the brand of the wheatgrass drink. He sent me this picture when I told him I was drinking xiao mai cao.

It's not girlpower anymore... It's GRASSPOWER!

Savoring School Life
School has started for 10 days and I am really enjoying it. I love holidays! But being a student is one of the best thing to be. Must relish the times as a student. It's such a short period of time compared to working life and has a "critical period". Meaning, that we can only be students the first 2 decades or so of our lives. Because anything way more than that is really challenging as society and people has certain expectations for us and we need to fulfill certain roles (like a father providing for his family, a daughter giving her parents monthly allowances and a self-sufficient individual). So I really treasure the opportunity I am able to be educated and be empowered to accomplish my dreams.
I've never felt so happy studying. Mainly because I am feeling the empowerment from the knowledge I learnt to face challenges in society, with people and in life. And very importantly, I'm studying what I like - Psychology, the study of people's behavior and cognition.
2 lecture slide in econs lecture today reminded me of what I learnt in SOT. It was about how to produce growth in an economy. Here is what the slides wrote:
What should be done?
Investing in People
- There is a direct positive relationship between per capita real output and level of health (life expectancy, infant mortality)
- The relationship has been confirmed by analyzing historical data with help of advanced statistical procedures
- It is also found that level of education and per capita GDP are highly correlated.
- Education adds to stock of human capital (enhancing people's capacity to produce more), increases growth by stimulating innovation and new ideas, and creates high-level manpower essential for R&D activities.
And this is what Pst Meng shared in SOT: if you want your company to be successful, invest in people.
Well, the word is confirmed by science.
The logic is very simple, you make people happy, people will be willing to work their best for you. When companies improve the welfare and value of their employees, they generate loyalty and passion among employees to commit themselves to the company. The duty of managers and high ranking officers is really to show that the value and worth that the company adds to each employee (not just in terms of salary, but even psychological, personal and family well-being) is greater than the price they pay (time, effort, commitment, OT etc.) And the way managers can show it is really by love and passion for the employees. Meaning, not treating employees as people who they can manipulate and order around or just people who needs to get things done. But able to go down to their level to mingle with them, who remembers things about them and treat them as VIP, as if their service to the company has great relative importance. Relationship preceeds work. To what extent does the employee recognizes him/herself as part of the company depends on the extent of the relationship managers have with their workers.
Even as I share this, it has become a revelation and an inspiration to me. Bringing me new understanding to what I have learnt. But really, nothing is new under the sun. Sometimes, we just over look it in the pursuit for success - the underlying principles of success.
[* pardon if i have spelling and grammatical errors!!! hahaha]
